Jeffrey Moffatt has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2016 Political Courage Test.
| Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Although this is controversial, and is at odds with my religious values this is the law of the land. | |||
| Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending? | ||
| Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| I propose a flat tax of 12% to 15%, on both individuals and Corporations. This would create a reduction in tax for the middle class. This is a modification of the Laffer curve idea, such that overall tax rates should decrease individually. The burden will then be carried by the Corporations. I would also propose taxing Capital gains and dividends at 15%. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| Citizens United has created a mess and this case should be overturned. I also have an issue with the idea that entities are individuals, but that somehow artificial individuals can contribute more to a campaign than a flesh and blood individual. | |||
| Yes | Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes? | ||
| Yes | Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment? | ||
| No | Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders? | ||
| We have prisons that are full from $20 drug deals. Citizens are paying $60,000 per year to house and transform individuals that violated drug policies. Some of these drug policies, we are coming to find, were directly aimed at targeting various demographic entities. I am for the advancement of a National Medical Marijuana policy. Many of my Social Security Disability clients receive relief from Medical Marijuana, however the Federal Government has not fully adopted the idea. Tax policy, as well as Federal recognition should change. Those arrested for using marijuana for medical purposes should be released from prison. | |||
| Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation? | ||
| I want to remove NAFTA. I also want to modify EPA requirements, such that jobs come back to the United States. I suggest tax incentives to encourage this. | |||
| No | Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants? | ||
| Common Core is an example. As a parent, seeing instructors struggle with basic math, making it more complex than necessary, and then seeing my son struggle because of this unnecessary complexity makes me wonder why this was adopted. I am for programs that work. Regional, rather than national programs likely address this better, and give parents and administrators the required flexibility to teach information, rather than teaching kids how to pass a national test; we have enough of that in graduate school. | |||
| Yes | Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline? | ||
| Yes | Do you support funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry? | ||
| This should be a regional issue. I have legal clients nationwide that benefit from Fracking. I also have clients that have been impacted from fracking in geologically sensitive areas, via water contamination. I think States should control fracking. I also am working with an entity that has proven technology to clean up water contamination. This technology should be put to work in areas where fracking has contaminated water. I will work to bring this expertise to communities that are suffering from water that can literally be ignited. | |||
| Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change? | |||
| Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| I find it absurd to have EPA requirements produce cleaner air from an exhaust pipe, than actually come in from the outside environment. With smog and air contamination blown from China, as well as India and Vietnam that are blown to the U.S. I also find it amazing that old U.S. vehicles can be re-registered in Mexico, and then used in the U.S. without DOT and EPA standards applying based on NAFTA. We can no longer be the EPA police, literally forcing business across the ocean, and across the border because the EPA regs are too difficult. | |||
| No | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| The second Amendment was created to allow citizens to protect themselves as well as hunt. Presently states that have the most restrictive gun laws, still have criminals that use guns. The only unarmed individuals are the law abiding citizens. In states that have open carry laws, citizens regularly stop crime in its tracks. I personally advocate for | |||
| Yes | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")? | ||
| As Obamacare was sold to the people, rates were not to increase. My own insurance nearly tripled. Coverage was also to remain the same, in fact many Insurance companies have revoked coverage on small businesses, so this commitment was violated. Co pays were also not to increase, and my own co pay went from 10% to over 60%, and the deductible up to $8,000 per year. The entire premise of what was sold to the people has been changed. The bill was written by Insurance companies, and these companies have not been accountable for the total violation of these promises. | |||
| Yes | Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| If we don't follow returning these immigrants, then we have made it an incentive to come illegally. we have many that are released voluntarily, with a court date. Hundreds of thousands of those released do not follow the legal process. With a president that is committed to not deport illegals, and States not receiving proper Federal Compensation to cover the burden on the state and local infrastructure, impacted communities are finding resources taxed and used to a disproportionate amount by illegal immigrants. | |||
| Yes | Do you support same-sex marriage? | ||
| I recall having issues with this based on my religious teachings, and the value sets I was taught. I conveyed this to a dorm roommate, during my undergrad studies at Iowa State. This roommate was studying to be a veterinarian. This individual schooled me in how natural same sex relations are in nature. I was provided documentary evidence on same sex relations between Primates, large cats, as well as other animals. As such, my argument that same sex was un natural has been replaced with the reality that it exists in both human relations and the animal kingdom. | |||
| Yes | Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict? | ||
| Yes | Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon? | ||
| I follow the ideas that Israel had, when looking or war criminals. You look for them by any means necessary. Humanity is frail, and the explosion of a single unit can have an impact on the world. To preserve humanity, I believe it is ethical to be inhuman to those threatening the entire civilization, and target them wherever and whenever necessary. | |||
| Yes | Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts? | ||
| In theory yes. The problem is that so many in power have been corrupt. We have FNMA and Freddie Mac that were taken over to bailout friendly banks because they had $5 trillion dollars that the elite could take over. Fortunately, Judge Sweeney of the Federal Court of Claims, is allowing the deceit and corruption that can happen to be exposed. As such, in theory the market performs better, however those in office have been known to have other agendas. How to benefit from the market and not allow diversion of funds like FNMA is the tough issue. | |||

| I would release the gag order on Sibel Edmonds. I would also release the 28 pages of the 911 report that have been classified. This would cost nothing. The information gained would likely lead to a proper redirection of our internal policy, as well as International policy. We are likely to discover, just as we are in the Fairholme case at the Federal Court of Claims, in relation to FNMA, that some in Federal Government, have warped agendas, and use private money for the benefit of connected individuals. I am the only candidate willing to make these requests. |
